The Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Aliyu Shugaba has said that the institution is set to hold its combined 24th Convocation ceremony on Saturday, where at total of 20,048 students will be graduating from the institution.
Prof. Shugaba said that out of the 20,048 graduating students from the regular undergraduate programmes, 6,940 are from Affiliated Colleges, and 3,032 from Center for Distance Learning (CDC) with statistics of Certificates and Diplomas recipients.
He disclosed this on Wednesday during a pre-convocation media press briefing at the Aliyu Shugaba Conference Hall , Muhammadu Indini International Conference Center , University of Maiduguri .
The VC said there is a total of 147 students that got First Class, out of which 86 came from the regular undergraduate programmes and 61 from affiliated colleges.
He added that the institution is also graduating a total of 1,698 post-graduate students comprising of113 Ph.Ds, 817 masters degree and 902 postgraduate diploma students.
He noted that the convocation activities started on Friday, the 10th of November with a Juma’at Friday special prayer session at the University Central Mosque, followed by an Inter-Denominational Church service at the Chapel of Grace while the convocation would hold on Sunday,12th of November, 2023.
According to him, the VC and other Principal Officers had on Monday the 12th inspected the venues and various project sites to be commissioned while the convocation lecture will be delivered by Professor Attahiru Jega, CON on the “Prospects and Challenges of Tertiary Education in Contemporary Nigeria” on Thursday 16th November 2023 at 4:00pm at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre.
Professor Shugaba said there will also be an Alumni Dinner/Award Night at 7.00pm at the El-Kanemi Hall On Friday the 17th of November 2023.
” The Chancellor will be invested at a convocation ceremony at the Convocation Square University of Maiduguri. Degrees, Diplomas Certificates and Prizes will be awarded to the graduands.
“While on Saturday, the 18th of November,at about 10.00am, the Abdul Samad Rabiu International Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship will be commissioned, followed by a convocation ceremony for the award of Higher Degrees alongside the launching of an Endowment Fund which will be re-launched .
The VC explained that Honorary Doctorate degrees will be conferred on the four distinguished Personalities:, namely, the Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima GCON, His Royal Highness the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman BUA Group and Alhaji Dr. Dahiru Bobbo, the former Registrar of the University of Maiduguri for their remarkable contributions to the University and society.
He added some Professors Emeriti, namely: Professor Abubakar Mustapha, Profeasor Muhammad Yerima Balla and Professor Bamidele R. Badejo will also be appointed at the Muhammadu Indimi Learning Centre, while guests will depart on Sunday the 19th of November,

“The University would be graduating a total of thirty three thousand, four hundred and twenty nine 33,429 students from the 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions,”Professor Aliyu said.
