C’River to upgrade U.J Esuene stadium to 30,000 capacity

The Cross River Government says it has plans to upgrade the U.J Esuene stadium from the current 16,000 capacity to 30,000 capacity.

 

The Commissioner for Sports, Agnes Atsu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Wednesday.

Atsu said that the project, which will be undertaken on a Private Public Partnership arrangement, will also see to the upgrade of the entire stadium facilities.

Atsu said the entire sitting capacity of the stadium would be covered, while the football pitch and the tartan tracks would be installed.

He said: “The entire stadium and the facilities will be remodeled and improved to FIFA standard.

“We have held several meetings with the investors and how they plan to recoup the elite investment.

“All these are part of the policies geared toward improving on the state’s sporting activities and also to regain the lost glory of Cross River in sports.

The commissioner said that revamping sporting activities “is part of the government’s policy at productively engaging the youths to curb youth restiveness and also address insecurity.” (NAN)
