How members of Hajia4Reall’s ‘sakawa’ empire, ‘The Enterprise’ were arrested

Hajia4Reall (L) has pleaded guilty in a $2 million romance scam by the ‘The Enterprise’

Last Wednesday, Ghanaian social media personality, Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia4Reall, pleaded guilty in a $2Million romance scam case in the United States of America (USA).

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, while announcing Haji4Reall’s guilty pleas, stated that she was part of a notorious ‘Sakawa’ empire which operates in Ghana and West Africa, known as ‘The Enterprise.’

But this is not the first time ‘The enterprise’ – a cyber-fraud criminal gang that ripped off victims to the tune of $50Million – has been in the news.

In 2021, US authorities announced that they had arrested some Ghanaians who were part of the notorious gang.

Members of ‘The Enterprise’ and how they were arrested

In February 2021, investigative authorities in the United States announced the arrest of six Ghanaians suspected of being part of ‘The Enterprise’ across some states in the USA at different times.

The members of the gang who were arrested include Farouk Appiedu, Fred Asante, Celvin Freeman, Lord Aning, Sadick Edusei Kissi, and Faisa Ali.

The operation that led to the arrest spanned between 2013 and 2020, during which period the group committed a series of e-mail and romance scams against individuals and businesses located across the United States.
