FG partners NGO for nationwide surveillance camera installation

The federal government last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding with an Independent safety organization Known as ‘’Risk and Accident Prevention of Nigeria’’ (RAPSON) for a nationwide installation of traffic cameras and safety certification scheme in Nigeria.

The special adviser to the President on Ethics and Values, Dr. Serah Jubril who representing the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan signed on behalf of the government while the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NGO, Engr. Ben Koko Odohofre signed for his establishment.

In her speech during the event, special adviser explained that the NGO was thoroughly investigated to ascertain their authenticity, credibility as government is ever willing to transact business as well as go into partnership with meaningful organisations that are able to bring out concepts that could add value to human lives in Nigeria.

She challenged the NGO on the principles of the project terms of execution, adding that credibility and thoroughness along with prudent management of funds accruing to them for the take-off of the project could make or mar Nigerians image within and outside.

She lamented incessant cases of accident and insecurity arising from frequent threats of terrorism in the country expressing the hope that Nigerians shall begin to have a sigh of relief when the nationwide installation of surveillance cameras and that of traffic control system as encapsulated by the NGO terms of agreement comes fully for implementation in the country. 

Dr. Jubril further revealed that her office schedule of duties include to collaborate with relevant government or credible private institutions towards engineering the conscience of the citizenry to improve and raise the national and individual morals as well as handle any other assignment as may be directed by the president.

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the NGO, Engr. Ben Koko Odohofre in his address at the event reiterated his organization’s readiness to implement all the projects assigned to him by the government, stressing that the model of his project is foreign based citing United Kingdom as an instance.

He called on Nigerians to expect drastic reduction in crime and accident rates in the country, pointing out that most of the sophisticated equipment and machines his organization want to deploy into the country could capture perpetrators of terrorism irrespective of places and distances such hoodlums carry out the atrocity.

His organization, the chairman explained was set up with the following major objectives, to save lives, reduce injuries arising from accident and crashes as well as make Nigeria accident free through regular free training and retraining of drivers thereby making behavioral safety a foundation for official practice in the country.
