
The accident scene
No fewer than ,15 people lost their lives while 17 others sustained injuries in a tragic lone road crash involving a trailer along the Ogbomoso–Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State early Monday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident occurred at about 2:32 a.m. near the Muslim Cemetery and involved a DAF XF trailer with registration number GWL274XC.
According to the agency, all 48 occupants of the vehicle were male, with 15 confirmed dead, 17 injured and 16 escaping without injuries.
The FRSC attributed the crash to driver fatigue, noting that victims suffered fractures, dislocations and bruises.
Sector Commander Kabiru Kazeem identified the driver as Nasiru Muhammed and said the injured were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment.
He added that the bodies of the deceased had been released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in Moro Local Government Area. Kazeem also disclosed that rescue teams continued searching for possible victims trapped beneath the trailer’s load following the joint operation by FRSC personnel from Oloru and Oko Olowo outposts.
The sector commander said the command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns and urged motorists to avoid mixed loading, fatigue and night travel to reduce road crashes.
