2023: BOSIEC to hold LGCs polls 20th May

The Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) has announced Saturday, 20th May, 2023 as the schedule date for Local Government Council elections in all the 27 LGAs of the state.

A statement issued and signed by the Director of Information, BOSIEC, Hajiya Zara Alhassan and made available to newsmen in Maiduguri on Friday, said the Executive Chairman of BOSIEC Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud disclosed this during a LGCs election stakeholders meeting at the conference hall of the commission .

Alhaji Mains said the section 10 and18 sub section a(a) of the BOSIEC Law 2002 (as amended) empowers the commission to organize , undertake and supervise the LGCs elections in all the 27 Local Government Area’s of the the state.

He further explained that due to the fact that the commission value the participation of all the stakeholders as shown by their quick response to the meeting, despite the short notice, the commission is ever ready to conduct a free , fair and credible LGCs election..

The BOSIEC Executive Chairman also solicited for the support of the election stakeholders, during and after the elections , pointing out that, their support can never be over-emphasized as the commission is assiduously working earnestly towards entrenching the nascent democracy at the grassroots level.

The State Coordinator of Code of Conduct Bureau Alhaji Grema in his remark, urged civil Servants venturing into politics to resign and declare their assets before contesting election.

While in his own submission , the State Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Abba Shettima Imam advised politicians to present genuine and credible documents for proper screening in order to avoid too much disqualification and Litigation cases.

Fourteen (14) out of Eighteen (18) registered political parties attended the meeting among other election stakeholders .
