Super Eagles in camp
Eighteen players have now checked into the Super Eagles’ training base in Polokwane, South Africa, as preparations ramp up for Nigeria’s opening 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho on Thursday.
Promise Efoghe, the team’s media officer, confirmed the update to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
The camp, located at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane, officially opened on Monday. By Tuesday morning, 15 players were already on ground, according to Efoghe. Two more arrived in the afternoon, and defender Benjamin Frederick completed the tally later in the evening, bringing the squad in camp to 18.
“The coaches and other backroom staff were already in before the players started arriving,” Efoghe said, noting that a few more players were still expected to join via Johannesburg.
The squad held their first training session at 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday, as they began tactical preparations for the clash against Lesotho.
Among the early arrivals are team captain William Troost-Ekong, Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman. Also in camp are Wilfred Ndidi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chrisantus Uche, Terem Moffi, Moses Simon, and Calvin Bassey.
Completing the list of players present are Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Frank Onyeka, Tolu Arokodare, Semi Ajayi, and goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali, Adebayo Adeleye, Amas Obasogie, and the aforementioned Benjamin Frederick.
As it stands, Nigeria sits third in Group C of the CAF World Cup qualifiers, with 11 points from eight matches — trailing leaders Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa.
