By CHRISTIANA LOT, Jos –
As part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for a united opposition to drive what it described as the largest and most powerful political coalition in Nigeria’s history.
The Plateau State chapter of the party said the coalition reflects a growing desperation among Nigerians for a peaceful political revolution, citing worsening economic conditions and widespread disillusionment with the current administration’s policies.
Speaking at a press conference in Jos, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Silas Audu Wettok, said the ADC is ready to welcome all patriotic Nigerians who are committed to building a greater nation. He noted that the party, which has been active since 2003, offers a credible platform for democratic change.
“Nigerians are now pushed to the wall due to the unpopular policies of this current government, hence the need for a credible political alternative in the country,”
“The ongoing coalition in the country is not the same as what happened in 2013. Not at all! This is the biggest and most powerful coalition in our country’s political history, indicating the desperation of Nigerians for a peaceful political revolution come 2027.”
“The African Democratic Congress is willing to assimilate all patriotic Nigerians who are ready and willing to build a greater Nigeria of our dreams.” He stated.
Wettok announced that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Oke Nwonsu has been dissolved, following a directive from the national headquarters. However, he said the party’s structures at the state level remain intact.
“From now on, all directives are to be taken from the office of the Interim National Chairman, Distinguished Senator David Mark, and the Interim National Secretary, Raul Aregbesola. Here in Plateau, instructions will come directly from the State Chairman, Hon. Samuel Pam Gyang,” he said.
The party also reacted to claims by Mrs. Hanatu Gagara, who allegedly declared herself as the ADC chairman in Plateau State. Wettok dismissed the claim, describing her as the party’s Women Leader and not the chairman.
“The authentic ADC chairman in Plateau is Hon. Samuel Pam Gyang. Mrs. Hanatu Gagara is our Women Leader, not the chairman. We urge our supporters and the general public to disregard her claims.”
He commended the swift intervention of the Interim National Secretary, Raul Aregbesola, for debunking the list circulated by Gagara and for addressing the disinformation promptly.
Reaffirming the party’s strength in the state, Wettok said the ADC maintains elected officials across all 17 Local Government Areas in Plateau, with their tenures running until 2026.
He added that the registration of new members would begin as soon as the national leadership gives the go-ahead.
“Our party here on the Plateau is well structured, with elected officials across all the 17 Local Government Areas,” he emphasized.
