Former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has thrown his hat into the ring for the Kaduna North Senatorial Seat in the 2027 general elections.
Jamoh revealed his ambition at the sidelines of the Honorary Moot Court Appearance and Debate Competition organized by Precision Chambers, Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
Jamoh said his decision to contest for the senatorial seat comes after constituents from his zone urged him to run, considering the current governor’s position.
“A number of people from my constituency came to me again and requested that since the governor is in his position, I should contest for a position not occupied by him (Senator) in the 2027 elections,” Jamoh explained.
He said he has written to key stakeholders in the zone, expressing his willingness to serve, and is currently consulting with them.

Jamoh said his next move hinges on the outcome of these consultations.
“My position remains that I accepted to offer myself to the service of the nation once more, but I am currently in consultations with key stakeholders,” he stated.
This cautious approach suggests Jamoh is keenly aware of the political landscape and is positioning himself strategically.
The event where Jamoh announced his ambition was notable for its focus on youth empowerment, with a moot court and debate competition that sparked lively discussions.
Jamoh commended the students, saying the event “rekindles a hope on the youths.”
He was particularly impressed by the debate topic, “Should the House of Representatives Be Scrapped in Favour of a Unicameral Legislature in Nigeria?” which he believes will have national implications.
