Human rights activist and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has unveiled an unconventional vision for governance, saying he would appoint Artificial Intelligence (AI) as Minister of Finance and a drone as Minister of Defence if elected president in 2027.
Sowore made the declaration in a post on his X handle on Friday, where he argued that technology, rather than political patronage, should drive governance and public administration.
According to him, Artificial Intelligence would help eliminate corruption and inefficiency in the management of public finances by relying on transparent, data-driven decision-making instead of human discretion.
“Sowore2027 will appoint Artificial Intelligence as ‘Minister of Finance’ and a ‘Drone’ as Minister of Defence,” he wrote.
Explaining the proposal, he added: “The AI will eliminate human manipulation, waste, and corruption in public finance by making data-driven, transparent decisions.”
On national security, the AAC chieftain said the deployment of drone technology at the highest level of defence administration would represent a shift towards modern security operations.
“The Drone will redefine national security with modern surveillance, rapid response, precision, and accountability,” Sowore stated.
He concluded the post by insisting that governance should embrace innovation over politics of patronage.
“The future of governance is technology, not patronage.”
Sowore, who has consistently advocated institutional reforms and the adoption of technology in governance, is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election, although political parties are yet to begin formal nomination processes.
The proposal has since generated reactions on social media, with supporters describing it as a bold conversation on the role of technology in government, while critics questioned the practicality and constitutional implications of such appointments.
