The acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigeria Army, Sokoto, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose has affirmed that insecurity in the north western region of Nigeria has reduced significantly.
Gen Ajose, who is the 10th GOC of 8 Division is also the Commander Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA, disclosed this on Tuesday when executives of the Corespondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists paid him a courtesy visit at the Division headquarters, Giginya barracks, Sokoto.
Talking on how determined and ever ready the Nigeria Army are to restore unhindered peace to every region of the country, Gen. Ajose said, “Nigeria is getting better. We are trying our best and we will continue to try our best. We are not complaining and we will overcome.
“You can’t compare the years back in terms of insecurity to now. Killings, rustling and all other forms of insecurities has diminished greatly
“You measure counter insurgency by lack of attacks on daily basis. And the multiple number of vehicles plying Sokoto-Gusau road on daily basis now means we are getting it right”. The GOC enthused.
Commenting the efforts of the security agencies at all levels, the General said, “”We want the populace to know that Nigeria is getting safer””.
The GOC while appealing for effective collaboration with the media as a critical partners in the business of projecting the nation in good light.
“Journalists are necessary evils. They want to inform the general public. And we, in the military are not so forward to let the public know what has happened for some reasons.
“Some of these reasons are majorly when it’s not reported correctly. We want the media to report our activities at all times. But we want them to be professional enough to ensure that the details out there are correct””.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of Sokoto State correspondents’ chapel, Hanibu Harisu had divulged that the essence of their visit was to further strengthen the cordial relationship that exist between them and the 8 Division.
Habibu further noted that, their members which comprises reporters for national and international news organizations are partners in progress with security agencies, thus appealed for information sharing especially achievements of the security agencies towards making the nation safe.
He also appreciated the GOC and his management team for their numerous sacrifices for the country, just he added that, they deserve prayers and useful information from the public to enable them achieve their mandates.
