Team Nigeria secured the top position on the medals table, earning 28 gold, 35 silver, and 38 bronze medals at the recently concluded 14th African Arm Wrestling and 7th Para Arm Wrestling Championship held over two days in Abuja.
The Republic of Benin claimed second place with 23 gold, 30 silver, and 11 bronze medals, while Ghana took third with 21 gold, 20 silver, and nine bronze medals.
Reflecting on the event, Samuel Olatunji, President of the Nigerian Arm Wrestling Federation, expressed his satisfaction with Team Nigeria’s performance.
“I’m thrilled with the event’s high standards, the atmosphere, and the athletes’ performances. As a former athlete, I’m proud of our success,” he said.
Olatunji highlighted that Nigeria’s strong showing, amidst competition from 20 countries, reflects the federation’s growth and the sport’s progress.
He noted that the championship serves as a key stepping stone for the 2027 African Games qualifier in Accra next year.
