In a significant crackdown on crime, the Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a four-man syndicate suspected of orchestrating a series of kidnappings and armed robberies across the state.
The arrests mark a critical step in curbing violent crime in the region.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, addressed journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects, aged 26 to 33, were apprehended on August 8 along Nkpee Street in Bori Local Government Area.
“Following a distress call, our officers swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they caught the suspects engaging in suspicious activities,” Iringe-Koko explained.
A search of the suspects yielded a locally made revolver pistol, one live round of ammunition, an unspecified quantity of hard drugs known as ‘loud,’ and various charms. Additionally, police recovered an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna vehicle, registered as BNY-758-FS, believed to be used in the syndicate’s operations.
“The suspects are now in custody, and we are intensifying efforts to track down other members of the gang who fled, as well as to recover additional weapons,” Iringe-Koko stated. She emphasized the command’s dedication to public safety, saying, “We remain resolute in our mission to protect the people of Rivers State.”
The police urged residents to provide credible tips to aid law enforcement efforts, assuring the public of their commitment to act decisively against criminal networks. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the syndicate’s activities.
