Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is poised to demonstrate its resilience and organizational capacity at its upcoming elective national convention, according to Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday to provide updates on the convention, Ologunagba announced that the event is slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that all state chapters and stakeholders were involved in forming the convention’s sub-committees, with their lists to be released soon.
Ologunagba expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing preparations, highlighting the active role of various committees and stakeholders in ensuring the event’s success.
“Our party’s inclusiveness is evident as every state chapter has contributed to the sub-committees,” he said, adding that the Board of Trustees, Governors’ Forum, state chapters, and other key stakeholders are fully engaged.
“This convention will underscore the PDP’s ability to regroup and overcome challenges, reinforcing our commitment to unity and democracy,” he stated.
Addressing concerns about a potential parallel convention, Ologunagba dismissed the speculation, affirming that the party adheres strictly to its constitution and processes.
He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been closely involved, monitoring all activities.
“Such rumors are mere media speculation. Our local organizing and venue committees are working diligently, and we’re methodical in our approach,” he said.
Commenting on the recent by-elections, Ologunagba criticized the reported violence, intimidation, and arrests of opposition members, including PDP elected officials, during the polls.
He warned that such irregularities would not be tolerated in the 2027 general elections, asserting that Nigerians are now more discerning and will vote based on the country’s pressing challenges.
