Benue Deputy Governor, Mr Sam Ode
Benue State Deputy Governor, Mr. Sam Ode, has refuted social media claims suggesting his replacement ahead of the 2027 general elections, labeling them as unfounded.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia at the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Apochi in Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area on Friday, Ode dismissed the rumors as attempts to mislead the people of Benue South Senatorial District.
“There is no truth in the speculation that Governor Alia intends replacing me with Ojotu Ojema or anyone else,” he stated, addressing the false narratives aimed at stirring political confusion.
Ode emphasized the strong partnership with the governor, saying, “My working relationship with Governor Alia remains cordial, and we are committed to delivering on our promises to the people.”
He urged residents to disregard the rumors and focus on the administration’s development efforts.
Commenting on the possibility of Ojotu Ojema joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ode noted, “Benue South is largely controlled by the APC, and Ojema’s inclusion would strengthen our party.”
He welcomed the idea of Ojema joining the APC, stating it would enhance the party’s influence in the region.
Ode also called for respect toward traditional institutions, cautioning against involving the Idoma traditional ruler, Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo John, in political controversies.
“We must avoid dragging our revered traditional leaders into political intrigues,” he said, stressing the importance of unity in the Idoma community.
He further warned that “the unity of our people is our greatest strength and must be preserved.”
Encouraging civic participation, Ode advised Ogbadibo residents to engage in INEC’s Continuous Voters Registration to secure their voting rights for future elections.
He urged stakeholders to prioritize Governor Alia’s development initiatives and avoid distractions from divisive online falsehoods, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
