Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects linked to a violent assault on its tactical teams by suspected armed bandits and local militia in Benue State.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin announced the arrests, which occurred during an ongoing response operation in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area.
The operation follows a Friday attack at Agu Centre that resulted in the deaths of three police officers and left seven others missing.
Hundeyin stated that Benue’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Innocent Emenari, is leading efforts to rescue the missing officers and capture additional suspects.
He quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, who condemned the attack as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront to the good people of Benue.”
To restore security, Hundeyin revealed that the I-G has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets, emphasizing, “No stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue.”
The arrested suspects are currently in custody, providing valuable information to aid the investigation.
Hundeyin urged the public to remain calm and vigilant while supporting security agencies’ efforts to rescue the missing personnel, apprehend fleeing suspects, and dismantle the criminal networks responsible for the attack.
