An initiative to boost school enrollment has expanded its programmes with the distribution of books worth millions of naira to pupils and students in Afaha Inang Community in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The book distribution project comes barely six months after the initiative renovated the gatehouse at Afaha Inang Secondary School in the community.
The leader of the project, Hon Aniekan Hanson who donated the books said he was inspired to launch the initiative as a way of giving back to the society particularly to the community schools he attended.
Hanson, who is a councillor representing Awa ward 3 in Onna Local Government Area, said the book project was part of his determination to implement programmes and projects “in furtherance of his passion for academic development.”
Addressing the students, Hanson told them to take their studies seriously adding that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a bold step explaining the community school might be the first step.
He reminded them that they could become anything they aspire to be if they remain “determined and focused,” while advising them to make sacrifices, devote time to their studies, and assured them that the future holds great opportunities.
He also charged the teachers and administrators of both schools to redouble their efforts in delivering quality services in imparting knowledge to the learners.
Reacting, a community leader and national secretary of AFaha Inang Development Association, Itoro Macaulay thanked the councillor for the donation saying it would create a positive impact in the community.
“I want to express our heartfelt thanks to Hon Aniekan Hanson for donating educational materials to schools in our community.
“Your gesture is creating a positive impact in the educational sector, especially in Awa ward III, and will go a long way in assisting parents and students.
” Thank you Hon Aniekan for your commitment to making a difference in our community, he said.
