At his grand coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja made a bold call to President Bola Tinubu to “create Ibadan State.”
Speaking at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Friday, September 26, 2025, the newly installed monarch echoed the sentiments of the Olubadan-in-Council, affirming that the push for a separate state reflects the long-standing desires of the people of Ibadan.

> “They [Olubadan-in-Council] have a message for you, Mr President. They want Ibadan State. Or is it not so?” Oba Ladoja asked the crowd, drawing cheers of approval.
The monarch urged attendees to applaud President Tinubu “in advance” for fulfilling the request, adding:
> “I’m sure that if President Tinubu has one option of state creation from Oyo State, it’d be Ibadan State. Please do this in good time. We can’t wait to have Ibadan State — in fact, before the 2027 election.”
Oba Ladoja’s appeal comes amid renewed national conversations on restructuring and constitutional amendments, including demands for the creation of new states. Nigeria currently comprises 36 states across six geopolitical zones.
A Day of Tradition and Tribute

Oba Ladoja’s coronation, which followed his 81st birthday celebration, drew a prestigious crowd including former governors, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
Notable dignitaries included:

Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye
Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III

*A Promise to Serve*
Wrapping up his speech, Oba Ladoja promised unwavering service to Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, and the African continent, thanking residents for their support throughout the coronation festivities.
> “I salute all Ibadan residents for their perseverance since the start of the coronation about a week ago,” he said.
