Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken the Premier League single-season assist record after registering his 21st assist against Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day.
The Portuguese midfielder moves past Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who were both previously tied on 20 assists.
Brighton started the match brightly at the Amex Stadium but it was Manchester United who struck first in the 32nd minute when Fernandes delivered a set-piece into the box for Patrick Dorgu to head home, confirming the record-breaking assist.
Brighton responded with pressure and sustained possession spells, but United stayed compact and managed the game well.
In the 58th minute, Bryan Mbeumo doubled United’s lead after finishing off a flowing attacking move.
Fernandes then added his own goal in the 74th minute to cap a commanding performance and underline his influence throughout the contest.
With that assist earlier in the match, he now stands alone at the top of the Premier League single-season assist chart, moving clear of two of the competition’s greatest creators.
