President Bola Tinubu and VeryDarkMan (VDM)
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has called for social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to face prosecution over an alleged fake audio clip linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Onanuga made the statement in a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday while reacting to claims circulated by VDM in an audio clip.
The presidential aide accused the activist of spreading false information and abusing social media platforms through the dissemination of unverified content allegedly involving the President.
“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” Onanuga wrote.
VDM had alleged in the audio clip that there was a leaked WhatsApp voice note purportedly linked to an APC senator, claiming that President Tinubu allegedly contacted former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and asked him to step down for him during the 2023 presidential election.
However, the Presidency has dismissed the claim as false and misleading, insisting that the audio clip being circulated lacks credibility.
The development has since generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics debating the authenticity of the alleged recording and the implications of misinformation online.
