National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved the outcomes of the party’s recently concluded primary elections for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also extending the tenure of its National Working Committee (NWC) by one year.
The resolutions were contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 101st NEC meeting and signed by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the communiqué, NEC ratified the results of the party’s primaries conducted for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship and presidential positions, with the exception of contests still affected by pending appeals or those yet to be concluded.
The communiqué stated: “NEC approved the results of all recently conducted primaries for State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, State Governors, and the Presidential elections; except those with pending appeals as at May 29, 2026, and those yet to be concluded.”
In another key decision, the party’s highest decision-making body approved a 12-month extension of the tenure of the current National Working Committee.
“NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) for a period of 12 months from the expiry of their current tenure,” the statement said.
The committee also approved the establishment of caretaker structures across various levels of the party nationwide.
According to the communiqué, “NEC approved the constitution of the Caretaker Committees at the Zonal, State, Local Government and Wards for a period of 12 months.”
The ADC further used the meeting to express concern over the detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, describing him as a prisoner of conscience.
The party called for his immediate freedom, stating: “The NEC recognises Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai as a prisoner of conscience and calls for his immediate release.”
The resolutions underscore the party’s efforts to consolidate its internal structures and finalise preparations ahead of the 2027 elections while also taking a clear position on national political developments.
