Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded another operational breakthrough in the fight against insurgency after conducting precision airstrikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave at Yaganari in the Gezuwa general area of Borno State.
The successful operation, carried out on Thursday, July 10, formed part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the strikes followed credible intelligence indicating renewed terrorist activities and the concentration of fighters within the area.
According to him, the Air Component deployed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets to verify the information before launching the attack.
The statement noted that the surveillance missions confirmed the existence of terrorist structures and logistics facilities, which were subsequently targeted in coordinated precision strikes.
«“The targets were subsequently engaged in a series of precision strikes, leading to the destruction of terrorist infrastructure and the neutralisation of several terrorists.
“The successful operation further underscores the growing pressure being mounted on terrorist elements, whose freedom of movement and ability to regroup continue to be severely degraded by sustained air offensives.”
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the personnel who participated in the mission, commending their professionalism and dedication to ongoing military operations.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to the counter-terrorism campaign, the CAS said the service would continue to work closely with ground forces to eliminate terrorist threats across the country.
According to him, “The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge.
“We remain committed to ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven and no opportunity to recover their capabilities.”
Air Marshal Aneke also stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain focused on consolidating the gains already achieved in the ongoing fight against terrorism, vowing to sustain offensive operations until insurgent groups are decisively defeated.
