Residents of Gummi in Zamfara State turned out in large numbers on Thursday to welcome troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following a successful operation that dealt a major blow to armed bandits operating around the area.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Lt. Col. Osoba said the troops returned to base after clearing a terrorist hideout at Dutsen Gidan Hill, about 17 kilometres outside Gummi town in Gummi Local Government Area, where they neutralised scores of bandits during the operation.
He said the troops also recovered dozens of motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals for movement and attacks on surrounding communities. The motorcycles were transported back to the military base aboard an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
According to him, the arrival of the troops triggered spontaneous celebrations as residents lined the roads and gathered at the military base to cheer the soldiers, applauding their courage and sacrifices in the fight against banditry.
The reception underscored growing public confidence in the ongoing military campaign across the North West and reflected the strengthening cooperation between local communities and security forces in the push to restore peace.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups across the region while encouraging residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts.
