Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-nominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Governor Zulum described the President’s decision as a demonstration of political wisdom, national unity and confidence in the leadership capacity of the North-East.
Speaking on behalf of the government and people of Borno State, the governor said the re-nomination of the Vice President had been received with gratitude and excitement across the state.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Borno State, I hereby convey our deep sense of gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for re-nominating our distinguished and illustrious son, His Excellency Vice-President Kashim Shettima, as your running mate for the upcoming 2027 General Election,” Zulum said.
The governor noted that President Tinubu’s decision reflected his commitment to sustaining the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda while strengthening national cohesion and political stability.
“Your Excellency, this singular act of political sagacity and statesmanship is a testament to your unwavering commitment to national cohesion, continuity, and the consolidation of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’ By re-nominating Vice-President Shettima, you have not only reaffirmed your belief in the North-east region’s capacity but also demonstrated a leadership style that values loyalty, competence, and political stability,” he stated.
Zulum also described the Vice President’s emergence on the ticket as a moment of pride for the people of Borno, recalling Shettima’s leadership during the state’s most difficult period.
“Your Excellency, to us in Borno, this nomination is not just a political decision; it is a coronation of excellence. Vice-President Shettima remains our pride as a man who has traversed the difficult terrains of our state as Governor during the darkest hours and emerged as a beacon of resilience. To see him elevated to such a pedestal of national leadership gives us immense joy and a sense of belonging,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed Borno State’s support for the Tinubu administration and pledged the state’s backing for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
“Your Excellency, be rest assured that Borno State stands solidly behind you like the Rock of Gibraltar. We are committed to delivering our bloc of votes to ensure that this formidable ticket continues its progressive work beyond 2027,” Zulum declared.
The governor also congratulated Vice President Shettima on his re-nomination, urging him to remain steadfast in supporting the President’s administration.
“To His Excellency, the Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, I extend the warmest congratulations of the entire Borno State Government. We are proud of you. We celebrate you and urge you to continue to serve as the loyal lieutenant that you are, supporting our President to steer the ship to the Promised Land.”
Zulum concluded by thanking President Tinubu for what he described as his confidence in Shettima and his continued leadership of the country.
“Mr President, Sir, thank you for trusting our son. Thank you for the Renewed Hope. And thank you for your Visionary Leadership,” the governor added.
