Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for his commitment to supporting initiatives capable of reviving the state’s industrial base.
Prof. Ahmed gave the commendation in a letter of appreciation to the governor for attending the university’s 45th Convocation Ceremony and for pledging N50 million towards the establishment of ABU’s Science and Technology Incubation Park.
He said the incubation park is being developed with a strong regional development focus, aimed at promoting innovation, technology transfer, enterprise development and industrial linkages that align with Kano State’s industrialisation agenda under the Yusuf administration.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Governor Yusuf’s presence at the convocation added significant value to the event and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to translate vision into tangible outcomes for economic development.
The ceremony also featured the laying of the foundation stone of the incubation park by the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Prof. Ahmed noted that Governor Yusuf’s interaction with Dr. Okonjo-Iweala at the event, and the perspectives shared during the engagement, further underscored the governor’s determination to reposition Kano as an industrial and economic hub.
He expressed gratitude for the governor’s continued support to Ahmadu Bello University over the years, describing him as one of the few northern governors who have consistently upheld the enduring legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
Sir Ahmadu Bello founded the university in 1962 as a centre for regional and national development.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that when fully operational, the Science and Technology Incubation Park would serve as a strategic platform for nurturing start-ups, strengthening manufacturing value chains and driving industrial renewal in Kano and the wider northern region.
He also reaffirmed ABU’s readiness to sustain collaboration with the Kano State Government in pursuit of economic transformation and shared prosperity.
The incubation park is being developed under a partnership agreement between Ahmadu Bello University and AMA Medical Manufacturing Company Limited.
The agreement was signed shortly before the foundation stone-laying ceremony by Prof. Ahmed on behalf of ABU and the Chairman of AMA Medical Manufacturing Company, Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi. The founder of the company, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Bello, alongside other top management staff, was present at the event.
