The Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University,(SSU), Prof Bashir Garba, says the newly sworn in governor of Sokoto, Dr Ahmed Aliyu is very qualified to govern the State.
Prof. Garba, who stated this on Wednesday during on a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House in Sokoto, affirmed that the State has made a wise choice in Ahmed Aliyu.
He noted that the led management of the Ivory Tower are on a courtesy visit to congratulate the new governor, adding that they are equally happy for him having bagged his PhD recently.
“‘Your Excellency sir, you are very well qualified to be a governor. We have no doubt, that we will all be alive to say Masah Allah.
”We will also want to use this opportunity to congratulate you on acquiring a PhD which is the highest level of academic qualification”.
The Vice Chancellor who divulged that the new governor was part of the establishment of the State University about a decade ago, added that, the institution has not only come to stay but making steady progress.
“”We started with about 800 students but as at today, we are having about 9000 students. The State University has began post graduate programmes with our 400 students that have already completed their first semester and now waiting for the second semester.
“”We have been lagging behind in engineering and technological programmes, hence, there is the need to bridge the gap to enable us commence this programme””.
Prof Garba also appealed to the governor to do everything possible for the take off of the medical department, in addition to payment of salaries to visiting and sabbatical lecturers just like along other regular staff.
Those in the company of the Vice Chancellor include, the DVC Admin. Prof Attahiru Sifawa, the Registrar, Hajiya Kulu Abubakar, the Dean Students Affairs, Dr Sadiq Shehu an the Ivory Towers spokesperson, Zayannu Shehu amongst others.
Responding, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto said the visit summarises their interest in his administration, assuring that he is going to work together with them as partners in progress.
“My administration will always allow for a conducive atmosphere for learning and teaching. I will always be ready to accept constructive criticisms, advise and any effort geared towards the development of our dear State”. The governor assured.
