Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang
National attention has turned to Jos ahead of the formal reception of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Vice President Kashim Shettima expected to lead the event scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Jos Polo Field.
The Central Planning Committee for the grand reception announced this on Monday during a press briefing at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Jos, saying the ceremony would mark what it described as a historic political realignment in Plateau State.
Chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, said the governor’s movement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was part of a broader effort to promote unity, inclusive leadership, and effective service delivery in the state.

Wase disclosed that Governor Mutfwang formally resigned his membership of the PDP on Monday, December 29, 2025, and later aligned with the APC governors on Friday, January 2, 2026, a move he said was driven by the governor’s conviction that the Renewed Hope Agenda should take root in Plateau State.
In his words: “Plateau State is witnessing a profound and historic political realignment, one that signals a clear transition toward unity, inclusive leadership, and collective responsibility.
“At the centre of this transformation stands the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. On Monday, December 29, 2025, Governor Mutfwang formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the realities of the moment and his unwavering commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery.”
“Barely days later, on Friday, January 2, 2026, His Excellency took another decisive step by aligning with the Progressive Governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In doing so, he reaffirmed his conviction that ‘The Time Is Now’ for the Renewed Hope Agenda to take firm root and flourish in Plateau State.”
He said the decision had been widely interpreted as the creation of a unifying political platform capable of attracting large-scale development initiatives, improving security, and boosting economic growth in the state.
Wase also disclosed that the Central Planning Committee, under his chairmanship and with Distinguished Senator Simon Mwadkon as deputy chairman, had been working round the clock to ensure a successful reception.
He added: “In recognition of the significance of this historic transition, the Central Planning Committee, under the chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Deputy Chairman, Distinguished Senator Simon Mwadkon, former Senate Minority Leader, and other members have been working assiduously, day and night, to ensure a befitting, well-coordinated, and memorable grand reception for the Governor.
“In addition, various sub-committees have swung into action, putting in place all necessary logistical, security, media, protocol, and crowd-management arrangements to guarantee a smooth and successful event.”
“Given the national importance of the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, is expected to formally receive Governor Mutfwang into the APC, supported by the National Chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Progressive Governors, members of the APC National Working Committee, National and State Assemblies, Federal Executive Council members, traditional rulers, and other distinguished dignitaries from across the federation,” Wase said.
He assured residents and visitors of adequate security and traffic control, noting that a massive turnout was anticipated from party supporters, youth groups, women associations, and political leaders from across the state and beyond.
Wase appealed to residents of the state to conduct themselves peacefully and extend hospitality to visitors who would be in Jos for the event. He further called on the media to give the event wide publicity and promote accurate information, describing journalists as indispensable partners in progress.
