Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Bichi and the son of the late Emir Ado Bayero, has emerged as the new Kano Emir.

He replaces Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was dethroned by the Kano state government earlier this morning.

A terse statement by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kano State said that Bayero’s appointment was officially announced in the presence of the Kano Emirate kingmaker and other stakeholders at Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano.

The new appointment came as reports from Kano suggest that security operatives have arrested the dethroned Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II and whisked him out of the ancient city amidst tight security.

The security operatives, as learnt, are said to be heading to Nassarawa state where Sanusi will spend the rest of his life in exile.

Before he was whisked away, Sanusi was said to have been put under house arrest by  the heavy security personnel, Police and Military.

The arrest was after the security operatives sealed off the Palace.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who is presiding over an emergency Executive Council Meeting, is set to announce the new emir any moment.
