Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has intensified its fight against crime by targeting not just criminals but their influential backers, according to the agency’s State Commander, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye.
Speaking to journalists in Akure on Tuesday, Adeleye revealed that the corps is adapting to the evolving nature of crime.
“The criminal world is changing, and Amotekun is staying one step ahead,” he said.
“We are now pursuing the godfathers and sponsors behind these crimes, not just the perpetrators.”
Adeleye disclosed that 28 suspects were recently apprehended for various offenses across the state.
He emphasized the need to dismantle the entire criminal network to ensure lasting peace.
“Until we uproot the sponsors, total peace will elude us,” he stated. “Breaking this chain of criminality is crucial for Ondo’s socio-economic growth.”
The commander highlighted Amotekun’s impact, noting that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) surged by over 500% in 2023 due to improved security. “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directive is clear: create a safe environment for investors to thrive,” Adeleye said.
He added that the state’s security framework remains robust, with ongoing joint patrols ensuring criminals find no refuge.
“The best option for criminals is to flee Ondo,” he warned.
Adeleye also reassured residents that Amotekun has secured the state’s forests, making them safe for farmers.
He urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly, cautioning, “If you see something, say something quickly. Delaying could be dangerous.” (NAN)
