Voting went on smoothly across most polling units in Nibo, Anambra State on Saturday, with residents commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what they described as a well-organized and peaceful exercise.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the atmosphere in Nibo was calm and orderly, with no reports of violence or disruptions throughout the polling process.
At Ward 3, Unit 002 in Ezeawulu, a resident, Mr. Onyeka Egbe, praised the new INEC leadership for its timely coordination.
> “INEC’s promptness is highly commendable; it wouldn’t have been possible without the initiative of the new helmsman of the Commission,” he said.
Similarly, at Community Secondary School, Awa (Polling Unit 003), voting was in progress under a peaceful environment, as security personnel maintained order around the venue. Many voters expressed satisfaction with the conduct of both the electoral officials and the electorate.
In Ogbu Town, Ward 017, where 367 voters were registered, the process was already nearing completion by midday, with priority given to elderly voters to cast their ballots first.
At Agumbala Mbaukwu, Polling Unit 112, Ward 3, the exercise also went on seamlessly. Residents there hailed INEC for what they described as a remarkable improvement in election logistics and timing.
A voter, Mr. Sam Ede, who arrived at his polling unit around 9:20 a.m., said he was impressed by the early start of the process.
> “Before, people would crowd the polling stations waiting endlessly for INEC. This time, before I got there, most people had already voted, including the Deputy Governor, Onyeka Ibezim,” he said.
At St. Jude Catholic Church, Nnaka (Polling Unit 009), voters were seen casting their ballots in an atmosphere of calm.
Another voter, Mr. Kanayo Illo, applauded the conduct of both INEC and the electorate.
> “This is exemplary for Nigerians at large to emulate and know that we can conduct a credible voting exercise, free of blame,” he said.
