All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed July 24 for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, a crucial gathering that will deliberate on the party’s next steps, including leadership succession, internal restructuring, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting will be held at the party’s Abuja national secretariat.
APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Festus Faunter, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday after a closed-door meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
He said the NWC meeting followed the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as APC’s National Chairman on health grounds, a decision the NWC accepted with gratitude and wished him well.
“Whatever we do now, including the endorsement of the Acting National Chairman, must receive the blessing of the NEC,” Faunter said.
Faunter added that the NEC meeting would consider the party’s leadership succession, and if a new chairman is nominated, the party would accept the decision and wait for the convention to take a final position.
“If during the NEC meeting, a new chairman is nominated, we will also accept that and wait for the convention to take a final position,” he said.
The NWC also discussed preparations for upcoming bye-elections in states where there are legislative vacancies due to death or resignation and mapped out early plans for Ward, Local Government, and state congresses. Dates for these exercises will be made public in due course, Faunter added.
