Army to foster creativity in dealing with evolving security challenges – COAS

Worried by the spate of insecurity in Nigeria, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General, Taoreed Lagbaja, says the Army will amongst other measures strengthen collaboration with other security agencies in addition to enhancing logical thinking and creativity to end the menace.

The COAS spoke on Monday at the ongoing 4-day Leadership Course for Senior Non Commission Officers (SNCOs) at the Command Guest House, Giginya Barracks Sokoto,

Maj. Gen. Lagbaja noted that he remain committed to a well trained, equiped and motivated force.

The COAS who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto, Major General Godwin Muktuk reaffirmed that the 4 Day Course is in furtherance of his Philosophy geared towards “Transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving their constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.

To the participating non- commissioned officers, the COAS reminded them that: “as leaders at your various levels, their ability to think fast and exercise command and control of troops placed under them is paramount to the success, growth and development of the Nigerian Army and the country at large.

“I urge you all to take advantage of this opportunity to not only upscale but develop your leadership skills, in order to enable you discharge your duties more professionally, while operating in joint operational environments'”.

On his part, the Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General, Garba Wahab while responding to questions from newsmen added also that the 4 day programme will no doubt enhance leadership qualities of the senior non Commission officers who are Commanders at operation units.

He further noted that the Course is structured to cover Leadership Framework, Practice in Military Justice System and Inter agency Cooperation among others.

” You can not separate other security agencies such as the DSS, Police, NSCDC from the Nigerian Army while working together in an operational environment”

General Wahab further admonished participants to be highly committed, enthusiastic and exhibit commendable discipline throughout the duration of the Course.
