Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former President Goodluck Jonathan
Nigeria may be passing through one of its most somber moments, but that has not stopped former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from celebrating a man he described as a rare beacon of modesty and statesmanship—former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan—who turns 68 today.
In a warm birthday message shared on Thursday, Atiku praised Jonathan for embodying the virtues many Nigerians continue to admire.
“Despite the sombre mood of our country at the moment, I wish to congratulate His Excellency, the former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on his 68th birthday,” Atiku wrote.
Describing the former president as a steady light in uncertain times, Atiku noted that Jonathan’s reputation for calm leadership and humility has remained intact long after leaving office.
“Your Excellency remains a paragon of humility and virtue, which many aspire to, and a bright spot that continues to shine,” he added.
The former vice president, who also celebrates his birthday in November, said he considered it a privilege to share the month with Jonathan.
He offered prayers for the ex-president’s continued strength and wellbeing.
“As a fellow November celebrant, I wish you well today and always and pray for your continued good health and vitality.
“Happy birthday, Sir.”
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, remains a prominent voice on democracy across Africa, widely respected for his peaceful transition of power—an act often referenced as a benchmark for political maturity on the continent.
As messages continue to pour in from across the country and beyond, today’s celebration adds a moment of warmth to a nation yearning for hope.
