Back on the beat, By SAMMANTHA ADDINGI

Dear Reader,

It has indeed been a long while. A lot of things have been going on and I would like to share with you one of the projects I have embarked on. Please leave your thoughts in the comment box.

Music Education

The importance of music education cannot be over emphasized. Music is in our soul and in music we find expression of our being. Playing a musical instrument is an avenue to express yourself. Music speaks out for the voiceless. It’s an avenue for expressing one’s innermost feelings. It develops the brain, showcases hidden talents and builds teams. Music gives balance to that child that is introvert or hyper.

Every child should have a balanced education, which includes music and art.

Music Education should be in our school curriculum and be taught by music educators. Every child should be given an opportunity to learn a music instrument and the language of music. This will teach the children disciple and teamwork and develop their social skills. Research has shown that music education accelerates development of the brain in children,

Improvement in memory, helps with mental health conditions. Music primes the brain for learning and children who learn music do very well in their academics.

As an advocate for music education in Nigeria, I have created a platform for children 18 and below to showcase their talents. This is a yearly concert called Kids in Concert. The next concert is coming up in November 2021 in Abuja.

I would like to encourage everyone to be a part of ensuring that music education is back in schools by enrolling your child and buying them the music instrument of choice.

Until you read from me again next week, keep listening to and playing good music.
