The Bauchi State Government has earmarked the sum of N7m to fumigate six out of the 20 Local Government Areas against mosquitoes in order to mitigate the incidence of malaria.
The Director General of the state Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, who stated this during the flagging of exercise in Bauchi, highlighted the 6 beneficiary LGAs to include – Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Ningi, Jama’are and Dass.
Dr. Kabir said this was the second time the present administration mandated the agency to carry out the fumigation against mosquitos”.
The DG explained that the chemicals to be used kill only mosquitos and was not harmful to humans or other insects and animals ‘as it was intended to specifically fight the malaria causing mosquitos’.
He noted that BASEPA equally enforces the monthly sanitation exercises across the state with a view to mitigating the spread of hygiene related diseases.
Dr. Kabir noted that aside the fumigation against diseases causing organisms, government had also mandated the agency to embark on tree planting, in order to protect the state from environmental hazards.
He reiterated the commitment and determination of the state government to safeguarding the environment and keeping the state clean.
