A deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists struck a vehicle traveling from Harang and Jibhuhwui villages in Borno State to Garkida community in Adamawa State on Tuesday.
The blast killed two people and left several others severely injured.
The victims were en route to attend a market in Garkida when the incident occurred, just 12 hours after Boko Haram militants razed Jibhuhwui village.
This is even as the Executive Chairman of Hawul Council Area, Hon. Hussaini Malgwi who is currently performing pilgrimage in the Holy Land of Israel on Thursday directed his Vice- Chairman, Hon. Adamu Usman Dongol alongside his counterpart of Biu local government, who visited and sympathized with victims receiving treatment at General Hospital in Biu Town
It will be recalled that within the past few days, some remote communities in that axis located around the Sambisa forest witnessed Boko Haram attacks, with looting of their foodstuff and domestic animals without confrontation.
Although reliable sources from the affected communities who confirmed the latest encounter, revealed that the North East Chairman and Commander of Hunters/ Vigilantes (Sarkin Baka) based in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Mohammed Shawulu Yohanna and his team have been doing wonderfully in confronting some of the terrorists hibernating in the area, as many of the terrorists have been arrested and handed over to troops.
The vigilante group called on other security agencies to wake up from their slumber in addressing the renewed attacks in Chibok, Askira-Uba, Damboa, Hawul and other local government areas in Borno South Senatorial District.
Another community leader, who did not want his name mentioned for security reasons, said: “Some dwellers (villagers) of Harang and Jibhuhwui, Hawul LGA were attacked by Boko Haram terrorists through detonation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted in the night on the rural road.
“Unaware by the villagers while going to Garkida market on Tuesday (04/02/2025), their vehicle stormed onto the device which triggered the explosion.
” Information gathered revealed that two persons died, while others are receiving treatment at a hospital in Biu town. May God Almighty bring a lasting solution to these incessant attacks by the terrorists”.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Hawul local government council, Hon. Hussaini Malgwi ably represented by the vice chairman Hon. Adamu Usman Dongol alongside his counterpart of Biu local government visited and sympathized with victims in general hospital Biu.
While interacting with the victims, Hon. Dongol presented cash to settle medical bills, even as he prayed for the repose of the Souls of the departed and wished the injured ones quick recovery.
He also commiserated with families of the victims to take solace in God, as government is working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders in addressing menace of renewed attacks in the Council.
