Borno Govt. bans hawking, illegal trading around Maiduguri Monday Market

Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security has announced a ban on hawking and illegal trading or loitering around the renovated Maiduguri Monday Market with immediate effect from today Monday, 9th October 2023.

The State’s Commissioner of Information and Internet Security, Professor Mohammed Tar, announced this in a statement issued to newsmen in Maidugiri.

“This is to inform members of the public that following the unfortunate fire incident at the Maiduguri Monday Market, and its eventual rehabilitation, the Borno State Government has taken measures to ensure a smooth take-off of the rehabilitated Monday Market. ”

” Therefore, Government has imposed a ban on all hawkers, illegal stalls, display of marchandise and all forms of trading around the external perimeters of the Monday Market”, the statement said.

It added that: “The ban also applies to the following access areas: Gidan Madara, Ahmadu Bello Way, Post Office Roundabout, Tobbaco Road, Kofa Biyu and Rabiu Zangina One way.

 

“This ban is with immediate effect. All violators will face the wrath of the law and their goods will be confiscated.
