Borno NUJ elects new executives members

Borno State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ) has elected new executive council members that run the affairs of the council in the next three years under the observation of the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo during the union 2022 Triennial Delegates Conference held in Maiduguri.

The Chairman of the Credential Committee, Comrade Ali Mamman Shuwa, who announced the results said Comrade Dauda Iliya of FRCN Radio Nigeria emerged as the Chairman while Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna of HumAngle emerged the Vice Chairman of the council.

According to him, Chiroma Ali Ibrahim of Peace FM emerged as the Secretary of the council and Mrs. Hauwa Bata of Peace FM also emerged as Treasurer of the council while Iya Maaji of NTA Network Center became the Assistant Secretary.

Others include Babagana Ali of BRTV emerged as Financial Secretary and Mrs. Bawagana Abba Liman of Federal Information Unit was elected as Auditor.

The Chairman thanked all the congress members for their support, understanding, patience and resilience in the peaceful conduct of the election which he described as free and fair.

He also acknowledged the support and cooperation of the NUJ National Secretariat for sending the Zonal National Vice President of the NUJ, North East , Comrade Zare Baba, who coordinated and monitored the Triennial Delegates Conference successfully.

Shuwa further thanked Governor Zulum for his untiring support and assistance in seeing to the success of the election as well as other individuals and organizations that supported the Credential Committee and NUJ Election in one way or the other including Barrister Nankham Ayuba Dammo, who administered oath of office and allegiance to the new Exco members.

The Credential Committee Chairman also presented to all the newly elected Exco members their certificates of return and election while congratulating them.

In his acceptance speech, the new NUJ State Chairman, Borno State Council, Comrade Dauda Iliya thanked the Congress members for giving him the privilege to serve them in the next three years and confidence reposed in him while promising never to fail them.

He also solicited for the support and cooperation of all and sundry including the election contestants , elders and senior colleagues to move the union to greater heights and regain its lost glory as well as reposition the union towards the promotion and consolidation of the unions achievements and members’welfare, which he described as paramount and can not be compromised by his leadership.

Iliya further pledged to work assiduously to ensure the development and progress of the NUJ Press Center in collaboration with NGOs, corporate organizations and individual.

He emphasized the readiness of his leadership to continue to partner the state government , Mass Communication Department of University of Maiduguri and all other relevant authorities to promote peace and stability in the state as part of the post insurgency rebuilding process
