Buhari pays tribute to popular musician, Chris Mba

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family, friends and fans of Chris Mba, one of the icons of Nigerian highlife music.

The musician died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday after battling a prolonged illness.

NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the former Premier Records signee, who was famous in the 80s for his signature jerry curl and hits like ‘Funky Situation’, “Baby Don’t Cry”, “Making My Way’ and ‘Love Everlasting’.

President Buhari paid tribute to the gifted voice as he recognised the contributions of the artiste to the growth of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry.

“This feat had also been recognised and celebrated by his colleagues in the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN)”, he was quoted as saying in a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu.

The President, however, prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed, and comfort for those mourning him.
