A community leader and environment expert, Chief Edwin Ogar has warned that Cross River State Government may not benefit from UN-REED Programme if logging activities continued unabated in the state.
The UN-REED Programme is funded by UNDP Multi-Partnes Trust Fund and provides the funding to the UN REED.
The United Nations programme on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation is a collaboration programme of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.
Speaking with our correspondent in Calabar, Chief Edwin Ogar, said he has been at the forefront of conservation, providing environmental services to Ekuri Community and beyond.
According to him, his team has set up and Indigenous community to ensure that forest is protected.
“It plays the same roles like the National Park”, he said.
He lamented that Cross River State and Ekuri Community is facing a new challenge by Governor Ben Ayade led administration.
He said over 100 Illegal logging companies are operating in Ekuri Community including Ezemmac International LTD,
But In a reaction, The Chief Executive Officer of Ezemsc International Ltd, Chief Ezenwa Daniel denied the allegations, insisting that the Cross River State Government is aware of its operation
