CDD trains stakeholders on reintegration, peace building programme in North East

The Center for Democracy and Development (CDD) has organized a 2-day capacity building workshop for media practitioners and religious/traditional leaders in a bid to accelerate the restoration of normalcy and the reintegration of ex-fighters in the North East.

The workshop which was held at Dujima Hotels banquet hall Maiduguri from Tuesday-Wednesday, was also aimed at interacting and brainstorming with the participants on the implementation of the existing “Sulhu Alheri Ne programme” that has been on radio and journal publications among others.

NATIONAL ACCORD reports that The Sulhu Radio Program forms part of the CDD’s efforts to promote initiatives that resolve unaddressed grievances, support forgiveness, healing, reconciliation, and reintegration at the community level across affected communities in northeast Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.

The Regional Coordinator of the CDD North East, Mr. Steve Amuda In his welcome address, said the 2 -day capacity building workshop was part of the Centre’s support to the Northeastern states reintegration programme.

Mr. Amuda, who was represented by the CDD Director, Idayat Hassan, added that the workshop would equip and strengthen the participants with necessary information and knowledge required as considerable critical stakeholders.

A Resource Person, Professor Bamala Mustapha, while delivering his presentation titled: “Strengthening strategic communications for media practitioners and the roles of religious and traditional rulers “, said the goal of the workshop is to improve on the capacity and knowledge of the media practitioners, religious and traditional rulers’ methods of practices and the roles they both play in the society as leaders and influencers.

Prof. Mustapha said it would also enhance peace building, unity and transitional justice among the victims of insurgency in various communities in the North East.

He further said the workshop would assist participants to understand how best the Sulhu Alheri Ne programme can amplified the voices of the people , enhance feedbacks, review and identified the possible gaps on the radio programme with regards to each of the groups in the transitional justice system.
