National Librarian/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi, has felicitated with Nigerian children and youth on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
In her goodwill message, Prof. Anunobi congratulated Nigerian children on the day set aside to celebrate their innocence, potential, and place as the future of the nation. She described reading as a powerful tool for self-development, critical thinking, and empowerment, urging young Nigerians to make it a lifelong habit.
“Reading opens doors to knowledge, opportunity, and leadership,” Prof. Anunobi said. “When you read, you equip yourself with the ideas, skills, and confidence to shape your future and contribute meaningfully to our country. Let this Children’s Day remind us that every great leader, inventor, and changemaker started with a book.”
In a statement by the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations,Vershima Orvell-Dio, she further reassured Nigerian youth that the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the education policies of the Honourable Minister of Education, are creating expanded opportunities for both formal and non-formal learning. According to her, these policies are designed to ensure that every Nigerian child, regardless of background or location, has access to quality education and the support needed to pursue and attain their dreams.
Prof. Anunobi encouraged young people to take full advantage of the platforms provided by the National Library of Nigeria, including its nationwide network of book clubs and literacy centers, as well as its physical and virtual resources. She emphasized the importance of reading materials about Nigeria—her history, culture, languages, personalities and achievements—so that youths can understand their heritage and be adequately equipped for life’s journey.
“The National Library of Nigeria remains committed to being a safe, accessible, and inspiring space for learning. Through our centers and digital platforms, we are bringing books, knowledge, and opportunities closer to you. I urge you to visit us, join a book club, and read widely, especially Nigerian content that tells your story,” she added.
The National Library of Nigeria reaffirms her mandate to promote reading culture and lifelong learning across the country, in line with national development goals and 2025-2030 strategic plan.
