The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) Kano has presented two of its authored and published free books for the public, which centered on corruption and hate speeches.
The Borno State Coordinator of the CITAD, Dr Hassana Ibrahim Waziri said following the increasing spate of insecurity and high level of corruption which has become a national and international issues, the authors decided to contribute their quota by way of carrying out researches that were collated, interpreted, analysed and presented in two forms of books, namely, “The Compromised State and Context” and “Content and Context in Hate Speech: Discourse in Nigeria”.
She noted that the book first explains the effects and problems associated with corruption as well as the challenges posed by corruption to both Nigeria’s public and private division of labour including the political office holders, among other issues surrounding corruption which is the bane of insecurity across the country, Nigeria.
Dr. Waziri, further, suggested that all stakeholders should endeavour to read the books in order to shun corruption and embrace probity, transparency and accountability to ensure the prevalence of peace and security which are the back bone and pillars of positive development in any society.
She added that the first book had shown how corruption elongated the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East of Nigeria as corruption permeated into the system involving everyone in one way of the other in terms of logistics, weapons, arms provisions, welfare of the troops and kits among others.
She also said the delay in passage of executive and legislative as well as public bills by both the state and national assemblies across the country has further aggravated the corrupt situation which needed to be addressed for a better nation and for all without discrimination and feeling of insecurity in any part of the country.
According to her, the first book which is on corruption also deals with how corruption is sustaining the insecurity in Nigeria without the Federal Government doing anything much to address the menace and made available adequate logistics and equipments among others to the soldiers at the battle fields to end the war.
Dr. Hassana also said that there is even corruption in the distribution of relief materials to the IDPs in the past which may have been informed the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum to personally begin to distribute food items and cash to the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The university don said the researches were funded by McArthur Foundation for public enlightenment and not for sale, pointing out that, the research findings would be helpful to all those involved in similar research towards ending the insurgency.
She however appealed to politicians and their party supporters to shun all forms of hate speech against persons or organisations or groups or communities as such ignite tension, riots, crises, etc hence hate speech could attract anger, resentment and conflicts among people.
She also urged the governments and media to support peace-building process by individuals and organisations.
