Managing Director, NNPC Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO), Salahuddeen Tahir, has identified strong indigenous capacity, strategic collaboration and execution excellence as the three imperatives for attracting sustainable investment into Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Tahir made the submission during a panel session at the ongoing Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) 2026, themed: “Policy in Practice: Aligning Fiscal Strategy, Foreign Investment and Local Content for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria,” held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday.
Tahir explained that NETCO was strengthening indigenous capacity across three critical areas: human capital, material resources and access to finance. He noted that the successful delivery of technically demanding projects such as Bonga North and Bonga South-West requires local companies with the requisite technology, competence, financial strength and execution capability.
He added that NETCO, in nearly four decades of operations, had contributed to the advancement of Nigerian content by developing local engineering expertise and expanding opportunities for indigenous participation.
The session, moderated by Engr. Joseph Nwakwue of Zera Advisory and Consulting, also featured chief executives representing Renaissance Africa Energy, Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited, Heirs Energies, Chevron Nigeria Limited and TotalEnergies.
