Counter insurgency: MNJTF reiterates commitment to rules of engagement

MNJTF Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the task force headquarters in N’Djamena.

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) combating insurgency along the shores of Lake Chad has reiterated its commitment to compliance with the rules of engagement in its operations.

This is contained in a statement on Wednesday from Capt. Benn Raphael, the Deputy Chief of Military Public Information Office, MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena.

He said the MNJTF Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the task force headquarters in N’Djamena.

The commander said there has never been any report of disregard to international human rights or international humanitarian laws by the task force.

Khalifa briefed the delegation on the MNJTF mandate, including resettlement of displaced persons back to their communities in Baroua, Niger Republic, Malafatori, Nigeria, Kolofata, Cameroon and Litri in Chad.

He lauded the humanitarian services and neutral position of ICRC in conflicts, and urged them not to relent in that direction.

In his remarks, the ICRC Chief of Operation, Mr Alfa Mamadu Djalo who spoke on the mandate of the organisation, commended the task force for the successes recorded in its operations.

Djalo urged the task force to respect rules of engagement and always contact relations of arrested persons during its operations.

He reiterated the commitment of ICRC to facilitating dialogue in the resolution of conflicts. (NAN)
