Court remands man for allegedly defiling neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter

An Iyaganku Family Court sitting in Ibadan, on Tuesday ordered that a 42-year-old man, Alabi Zakariyau be remanded for for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Patricia Adetuyibi, who did not take the plea of Zakariyau ordered that he should be remanded at Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo town.

Adetuyibi also ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

She adjourned the case to Feb.16 for mention.

The police charged Zakariyau, who resides at No. 28, Irepodun St. at Challenge area of Ibadan with defilement.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Folake Ewe, told the court that the suspect committed the offence in September at his residence.

Ewe said that he lured the girl into his room and had sexual intercourse with her.

Ewe said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 34 of Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates life imprisonment for rape. (NAN)
