Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has praised Nigerian troops serving under Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II (OPAA II) in the Republic of Benin for their professionalism and commitment, saying they have continued to make the nation proud through their exemplary conduct and unwavering commitment to regional peace.
The Minister gave the commendation during a morale boosting visit to Camp Togbin in Cotonou, where he met with the deployed troops alongside senior Nigerian defence officials.
Addressing the personnel, General Musa said their outstanding performance reflects the discipline, resilience and professionalism for which the Nigerian Armed Forces are widely respected.
He encouraged them to remain focused on their mission of promoting regional peace and security.
The Defence Minister also conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, stating that the President is pleased with the troops’ exceptional service and appreciates their sacrifices in strengthening peace and bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to stronger defence ties with the neighbouring country, General Musa said both nations would continue working together to tackle criminal activities along their shared borders. According to him, sustained military cooperation is vital to improving border security and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the sub region.
He thanked the troops for their selfless service and wished them a safe return to Nigeria at the end of their deployment, urging them to continue upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army wherever duty calls.
The visit ended with the presentation of a commemorative souvenir to the Minister by the Commanding Officer of Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II, Lieutenant Colonel AA Ikoro, in appreciation of his visit, encouragement and unwavering support to the troops deployed on the peace support mission.
