The arrested ex-convict
A dramatic scene unfolded at an Ilorin Area Court when ex-convict Segun Samuel attempted to escape from custody. Samuel, who had multiple cases pending against him, cunningly removed his leg chains with a broom stick and scaled the court fence.
According to ASP Samuel Mayowa, the Prosecution Counsel, Samuel had been sentenced to one year imprisonment in one case and six months community service in another.
“He has four different criminal cases in this court.
“One of the cases was heard on Monday and he was sentenced to one year imprisonment,” Mayowa said.
Mayowa revealed that Samuel’s escape bid was foiled thanks to the swift action of police officers and the prison warder.
“Luckily, the police officers in the court premises and the prison warder swung into action and pursued him,” he said.
After a thorough search with community assistance, Samuel was found hiding in a dilapidated building at Oke-Suna Area, Ilorin.
“After a thorough search, and with the help of the community, the ex-convict was found and captured and returned back to custody,” Mayowa added.
