By CHRISTIANA LOT, Jos –
ECWA Theological Seminary, Jos (JETS) has responded to cyberattacks and defamatory statements concerning its decision to confer an Honorary Doctorate on Apostle Arome Osayi.
The criticisms, circulated by a YouTube channel named “The True Christian Faith,” have been dismissed by JETS as unjust, unfair, and contrary to Christian values.
In a statement signed by Rev. Prof. Sunday Bobai Agang, the Provost of JETS, the institution outlined its position and reafirmed that the Honorary Doctorate awarded to Apostle Osayi adhered to its established traditions and due processes
The statement reads: “We note that the critic has a history of cyberbullying and targeting theological content, including that of respected church leaders. Such actions are not only reactive and unchristian but also unlawful.
“As an institution, we refuse to acknowledge the self-appointed authority of this critic and will not engage in a war of words. Instead, we remain focused on our core values, mission, and vision, which are centered on constructive building and public theology.”
JETS emphasized that the Honorary Doctorate was granted in recognition of Apostle Osayi’s significant contributions to social action, advocacy, and church work, making him a deserving recipient.
“We will not be intimidated by these attacks. Our actions are guided by our evangelical theology and commitment to serving God lawfully and lovingly. We encourage anyone with genuine inquiries to contact us directly.”
Affiliated with the University of Jos, JETS offers a variety of theological programs and continues to play a leading role in the African Theological Initiative. The seminary provides education and training across multiple locations, including Jos, Zaria, Kaduna, Suleja, Mangu, and Sokoto.
