Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Abasi-Otu the V,
By PATRICK ABANG Calabar –
Three Etuboms from the Obong of Calabar have kicked against the selections process that produced Etubom Ekpo Okoñ Abasi Otu, who was dethroned as the Obong of Calabar
The Etuboms include, Etubom Essien Ekpeyong, Efiok, Etubom Micah Archibong, who were the Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Etuboms Traditional Council as well as respondent in both appeals, said the council should have conducted the proceedings in line with 2002 constitution as ordered by the Supreme Court.
In a statement jointly signed by the three legitimate Etuboms on behalf of the Etuboms Traditional Ruler Council, the Etuboms said all those who took part in the selections process were not qualified to participate the selections process in the first place.
According to the Etuboms, the Traditional Ruler’s Council relied on the Supreme Court decision which threw the fresh selections process open to Western Calabar, comprising Ikoneto, Adiabo, and creek Town, and the contestants should have been qualified before taken part in the selections process.
They stated categorically that those who took part in the selections process and proclamation are not qualified as 11 of them are those capped by the dethroned Obong.
The Traditional Ruler’s Council urged the State government to urgently intervened in the matter to forestall breakdown of law and order.
They also called for an unbiased implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court’s judgement.
